The Institute of Specialist Surveyors and Engineers has been established for 30 years and is the only institute in the building preservation industry sector. The sector has expanded to include enviromental issues such as Radon gas, atmospheric moisture and ventilation control.
Problems associated with dampness have increased dramatically over recent years with moisture producing processes such as increased sanitary and clothes drying indoors while decreased standards of ventilation in buildings have allowed ‘moisture laden’ air to produce condensation on surfaces creating conditions ideal for germination of fungal spores. Thus in order to differentiate between the different types of dampness, enviromental hazards and provide effective solutions the ISSE has introduced a range of training courses and qualifications. An ISSE approved contractor scheme has been re established to raise standards and ensure property owners can received the advice and remedial works required and where appropriate receive an ISSE backed guarantee for those works.
An ISO registration has been introduced to provide the framework for implementation of the contractors scheme. Alliance Preservation is pioneering several ISSE innovations in this field on behalf of the ISSE.
